Dean Walker

With over a decade of experience as a mortgage broker, Dean started Walker Personal Finance in 2022. He wanted to help find and secure the ideal home loan, offering a mobile service to assist clients at a time and place that worked for them.

With a background and accreditation in financial planning, he worked with reputable local businesses to establish himself before branching out on his own. Now he plans to focus on personal lending to connect with clients during milestone points of their life.

We gave Dean the tricky task of financing an investment property at the same time as refinancing our principal place of residence for renovations. Oh, did I mention we’re both self-employed? It didn’t matter to him; he just got to work. He found us a suitable lender, met contract timelines (best he could), and juggled painful solicitors. Always with a smile on his face. A broker can assist you to check the loan interest rates, fees and features to get the best loan for you. A mortgage broker will compare these features and present them to you:

Interest rate (per year)	interest rate advertised by a lender
Comparison rate (per year)	a single figure of the cost of the loan — includes the interest rate and most fees
Monthly repayment	how much you’ll have to pay each month on a loan
Application fee	one-off payment when starting a loan, also called establishment, up-front or set-up fee
Ongoing fees	fees charged every month or year for administering a loan, also called service or administration fees
Loan term	length of time a loan lasts
Loan features	such as an offset account, redraw facilities or a line of credit (and their fees related to those services).
